Tāufaʻāhau Tupou IV was born on 4 July 1918 as Siaosi Tāufaʻāhau Tupoulahi. He was king from the date of his mother’s death on 16 December 1965 until his own death on 10 September 2006. His coronation was on 4 July 1967. He was the 10th Prime Minister of Tonga from 12 December 1949 until 16 December 1965. He was succeeded as Prime Minister by his brother Fatafehi Tuʻipelehake.
